Blessing of the Quilts Sunday 10-07-2018 Is quilting a creative outlet for you? Are the needle arts a place of refuge and prayer? There are many ways you can share your gifts and talents both here at Christ Lutheran and throughout the wider church by joining the CLC Quilters.
You don’t need to be a quilter to participate—-there are non-sewing duties such as sorting material and tying quilts. Fellowship is a big part of quilting! The CLC Quilters labor of love meets at two different times. Tuesday mornings from 9:30 - 11:00 in the Fellowship Hall. (If your coming for the first time please call ahead to Jan Erdman @ 608-588-2914) Saturdays (when a group can be put together). (If your interested in a Saturday please contact Joan Kilian-Ikeler @ 608-604-8857 or j.kilianikeler@gmail.com)
Imagine the comfort that comes with a hug when someone is in a time of deepest need. Through a simple combination of fabric and thread, you can reach out to those with some of the greatest needs in the world, not wrapping them in your arms, but wrapping them in the work of your hands through a Lutheran World Relief Quilt. In order to support Lutheran World Relief’s effort to gather 500,000 quilts a year the CLC Quilters meet and those who attended help the group organize, design, cut, sew, and tie quilts.
Donations of old sheets and blankets that can be used for backing or filler for the quilts. New and Like-New Blankets measuring approximately 60” X 80” for LWR – they send these blankets out just like they do the quilts. Monetarily - If you would like to continue to help the cause, consider a monetary donation. There is a need to purchase backing and batting for the quilts. The group will also be sending the quilts to LWR, so shipping is another expense and LWR would like donations to their shipping costs. You can give monetary donations (checks made out to Christ Lutheran Church).
HOW ARE THE QUILTS USED ? WHERE DO THE QUILTS GO ? Refugees world-wide receive quilts to keep them warm while they are far from home. Quilts will go to those who continue to suffer from the devastation of Typhoons and other natural disasters. Struggling communities will receive quilts to help reduce financial burden and provide for basic needs. Quilts will go to orphanages, homes for the elderly and children’s hospitals to use as bedding, so that these institutions operating on shoe-string budgets can use their resources for other necessities. Quilts will be used In war torn countries to refugees living in temporary shelters and camps. These quilts provide comfort and much needed protection from the wind and rain. |
